“African Queen” – Not the movie!

signThere are many beautiful,  port towns along the French Riviera, and Beaulieu is one of them – situated between Nice and Eze-sur-Mer (not to be confused with Eze village).

EZE VILLAGE Video

I recently had lunch there at the well-known restaurant, African Queen. The juxtaposing views are breathtaking, with mountains on one side and the port on the other, as I entered the restaurant. The meal and service were good at this upscale restaurant; my only complaint being that the bottles of water (both flat and fizzy) that they automatically brought to the table was a Swedish brand that was 8 Euro a bottle!  My fault for not looking at a water menu, but never thought it would be this over-priced – lesson learned!

Looks yummy. I am not sure how much 8e is but I am guessing it isn’t cheap. I had a friend come visit one time and order two hundred dollar crab legs. She didn’t know when she ordered. She heard the word special and assumed they were cheaper. She was from New Zealand.

  2. 8 Euro is about $10 but that’s nothing compared to the price of the crab legs you mention – wow! Thanks for your comment.

  3. And I thought 3.50 was bad for a cup of coffee! ( euros for some water, was it blessed byt the pope? Geeesh I think I’d have expired on the spot. I love the little towns and restaurants in France but usually the prices are well out of our budget. But then the cost of living here in Portugal I think almost half of that in France, non?

    • Hi Piglet – of course some tourist-based places are over priced everywhere, but you can find very reasonable restaurants all along the Riviera too. Yes, the cost of living here is high, relatively speaking, but then we have 300 days of Mediterranean sunshine to enjoy. Thanks for commenting and happy blogging.

  4. Thanks, but now I’m “addicted” to this weather and freeze if it gets below 60F 🙂
